Title: E-coatonomics: Costs and Options to Optimize E-coat System Operation, Efficiency & Profitability

Description:

Determining the cost of electrocoat is more than just multiplying the part area by the cost of paint and chemical per square foot.  There are many options that must be considered to maximize the E-coat system’s potential.

Abstract:

The following lists the subject matter to be examined:

  • Pretreatment Chemistry Options
  • Electrocoat Chemistry Options
  • Totalized Chemistry Cost/ft2
  • Fixed Costs
  • Variable Costs
  • Cost of Quality
  • Material Handling Costs

Choosing the proper chemistries is imperative to maximize opportunities, but care must be taken to avoid incurring unnecessary costs that don’t improve the overall bottom line.  Operating at or near production capacity is vital to maximize efficiency, but not at the expense of quality, or profitability can be lost quickly.  In addition, there are some hidden costs that many ignore in their P & L sheet estimates.  From this, some sample calculations will be provided along with different methodologies using for pricing coating operations with job shop type operations.
